This 12 pounder Mountain howitzer is on display inside the exhibit area at the Visitor Center for the Parker's Crossroads National Battlefield in Wildersville, Tennessee.
This Mountain howitzer is still used today for demonstrations and events at the National Battlefield.
A sign on the howitzer reads as follows:
"Mountain howitzer
The 12 pounder Mountain howitzer is a lightweight piece designed to be easily disassembled and transported on mule back. It could be reassembled and one round fired in one minute. The tube was only 32 point 9 inches long and weighed 220 pounds. The carriage was 61 inches long and weighed 157 pounds. The wheels were 38 inches in diameter and weighed 65 pounds apiece. At a 5" elevation, a half pound charge through a shell 300 yards.
There was no limber. The ammunition was carried in narrow boxes holding 8 rounds and weighing 112 pounds pack. One of these was strapped to each side of of mules pack saddle.
This mountain howitzer is used by the Parker's Crossroads Artillery unit."
