Die Eröffnung der Pöstlingbergbahn erfolgte am 29. Mai 1898. Die Bahn hat eine Spurweite von 1000 mm und eine Streckenlänge von 2,9 km. Vom Ausgangspunkt in Linz-Urfahr bis zum Bahnhof am Berg (519 m) werden 255 Höhenmeter überwunden. Ursprünglich war der Bahnbetrieb nur für die Sommermonate vorgesehen, aber schon im ersten Betriebsjahr wurde festgestellt, daß auch im Winter Bedarf für einen Bahnverkehr auf den Berg gegeben ist. Der Fuhrpark der Pöstlingbergbahn, der wohl steilsten Adhäsionsbahn Europas, besteht aus 10 geschlossenen und 3 offenen Triebwagen. Der Pöstlingberg mit seiner Bahn ist das Wahrzeichen der Landeshauptstadt Linz und eines der bedeutendsten Touristenziele Oberösterreichs.
