Tom Grattan’s mother died when he was born, and his father is fighting in the First World War. He is sent to live with relatives in Yorkshire. He, and his cousin Jenny, have many adventures involving spies and war saboteurs.
On his way from the station to the Kirkby farm Stan Hobbs stops at Brimham rocks to check his rabbit snares. Whilst he is gone Tom spots Major Kirkby skulking round the rocks. Later he spots a spy, who pushes Tom off the rocks.
