"Big Al’s, an all-in-one sports bar, bowling center, and arcade chain, will likely open by February 2019 in Milpitas after gaining approval from the city’s Planning Commission.

The 46,812-square-foot facility will be located at 15 Ranch Drive in the McCarthy Ranch Marketplace, and will take up two vacant tenant spaces most recently occupied by Ramos Furniture and Borders Bookstore.

Once open, it will become the fifth Big Al’s location in the country, and the second in California, with the first located in Ontario, according to the company. The chain, started in 2006, is based in Vancouver, Washington.

The commission unanimously approved a conditional use permit for alcohol sales and a site development permit to allow the demolition and rebuilding of some of the exterior features of the buildings.

According to city staff reports, the center will include three bar areas, 18 bowling lanes, a 6,650-square-foot arcade, a 4,400-square-foot, restaurant and sports bar with 230 seats, as well as an outdoor patio with a grill and firepit and a game lounge called the “BoardRoom.”

The BoardRoom will have a dedicated bar and will house activities and games including billiards, darts, ping pong, and shuffleboard, among others, according to staff reports. It will be open to all ages before 9 p.m., and afterward it will be open only to people age 21 and over.

A company statement from earlier this year said the location will feature a 55-foot, high-definition projection screen, as well.

Planning Commission Chair Sudhir Mandal said at the June 27 meeting he was “very happy” to see a business taking over the buildings.

“It was empty and just open and we need some business here,” Mandal said." (visit link)
