This is a beautiful municipal office building. It is a one and two-story brick building with a split gabled roof, and an extension to the rear (north). The entrance facing east is recessed under a concrete portico with a decorative greenhouse-type gable roof.
The town of Del City was founded by builder/developer George Epperly in 1948. This was post-WWII and the need for housing was critical, especially near nearby Tinker AFB. The community was basically a bedroom community for Oklahoma City, three miles to the west. The town was chartered and its government formed in 1959. Today, the population is about 21,500. It is primarily residential, with some retail and commercial.
Del City has a council-manager form of government. The mayor is elected at large for a four year term. There are four wards, with councilmen serving overlapping four year terms. The Council meets the first and third Mondays of each month. The office hours vary from department to department, with 8 - 4 being common.
