Born in Brûlain, Baptiste Paul Grimaud is the inventor of the modern playing card.

Baptiste Paul Grimaud born in Brûlain May 6, 1817. In 1848, he bought the studio of the Master Cartier Arnould in Paris. Baptiste Paul, transforms the old workshop and creates Grimaud and company. It innovates and establishes the foundations of the modern playing card.

We owe him the development of cards with reversible portrait, with two heads.

Under his leadership, the rounded corners and the varnish that protects the cards are emerging. So many inventions of which he lays the patent.

The competition can not keep up. Baptiste Paul Grimaud bought a number of card manufacturing companies. He quickly imposes himself in the world of master cardmakers. The Grimaud house becomes the first in France. It will have up to 350 workers.

Baptiste Paul Grimaud dies without an heir on April 21, 1899. His business continues his development. She won a prestigious gold medal and a grand prize at the 1900 World's Fair. Resumed in the 1960s, the Grimaud brand is still today

On lui doit le développement des cartes avec portrait réversible, à deux têtes.

Sous son impulsion, les coins arrondis et le vernis qui protège les cartes font leur apparition. Autant d'inventions dont il dépose le brevet.

La concurrence ne peut pas suivre. Baptiste Paul Grimaud rachète bon nombre d'entreprises de fabrication de cartes. Il s'impose rapidement dans le monde des maîtres cartiers. La maison Grimaud devient la première de France. Elle comptera jusqu'à trois cent cinquante ouvriers.

Baptiste Paul Grimaud décède sans héritier le 21 avril 1899. Son entreprise continue son développement. Elle obtient une prestigieuse médaille d'or et un grand prix lors de l'exposition universelle de 1900. Reprise dans les années 60, la marque Grimaud est aujourd’hui toujours
