A recent string of car theft and vandalism in Edmond was in the news. Oxford Oaks is one location where residents had their vehicle windows smashed, and stuff inside their car stolen (purses, wallets, and even a gun).

Police arrested two people suspected of 19 car burglaries in one night in Edmond, and officials said they believe the duo could be responsible for hundreds of similar crimes across the metro.

"Sunday morning, we started getting phone call after phone call from residents who were going out into the parking lot," said Jenny Wagnon, with the Edmond Police Department.

People woke up over the weekend with car windows smashed and the inside of their vehicles ransacked.

"We've had purses stolen, wallets. We actually had a handgun stolen out of a glove box," Wagnon said.

The Edmond Police Department received 19 reports of smash-and-grab burglaries at apartment complexes, houses and parking lots between East Second Street and South Broadway.

Officers arrested two people in another jurisdiction in connection with the burglaries, and police are working to determine if they're involved in more crimes. Authorities have not released much information about the suspects.

"They had the stolen property of our most recent auto burglaries on them, and they did admit they were doing the smash-and-grab-type auto burglaries," Wagnon said.

The duo admitted to targeting the Edmond area since November, according to Wagnon. They also admitted to committing hundreds of car burglaries across the metro.

"So, we expect we will have dozens and dozens of cases we could potentially solve from this arrest," Wagnon said.
