L’Édifice fédéral se trouve le long de l'artère nord-sud principal de Rimouski. L’extérieur de ce bâtiment rectangulaire de deux étages, coiffé d’un toit plat, est revêtu de pierre et de brique. L’horizontalité prononcée de la façade vitrée de l’édifice est compensée par les pilastres verticaux qui s’élèvent sur les deux étages. L’entrée principale est en saillie par rapport à la façade et se distingue par un encadrement prononcé. La désignation se limite au tracé au sol du bâtiment.

Il y a deux ans, L’Avantage s’est intéressé au sort de l’édifice situé au 180 avenue de la Cathédrale, alors que des filets venaient d’être installés sur sa façade. La nouvelle était à l’effet qu’on envisageait de sérieux travaux, mais que le tout était à l’étude approfondie, sujet à une décision qui serait annoncée ultérieurement. L’édifice comptant 3 433 mètres carrés d’espaces locatifs a déjà accueilli le bureau de poste, entre autres. Il y a deux ans, il était occupé à 67% par les ministères et agences fédéraux suivants: Agence d’inspection des aliments, Agence de revenu, Innovation, Sciences et Développement économique, Service correctionnel, Services partagés, Services publics et Approvisionnement et Transports Canada.

The Federal Building is located along a principal north-south thoroughfare in Rimouski. The two-storey, rectangular structure with a flat roof, is clad in a combination of stone and brick. The horizontal emphasis of the building’s glassed façade is counterbalanced by vertical pilasters that extend through both storeys.
