Habituellement, en France, une commune a créé son monument aux morts après la première guerre mondiale. Une plaque est ajouté pour la seconde guerre et quelques fois une autre pour l'Indochine ou un autre terrain de guerre. Les nom qui sont gravés sur la pierre sont ceux des soldats nés dans cette commune et décédés au combats durant l'un des conflits. A Cruis, le haut est gravé

Aucune autre plaque pour un autre conflit. Aucun autre soldat né ici n'est donc décédé ailleurs que durant cette première guerre mondiale. Note aux non-francophones. La mention "Aux enfants mort pour la patrie" ne signifie pas que les habitants ont envoyés les enfants se battre à leur place ou que des mineurs ont été exécutés par l'occupant. Ce mémorial est un mémorial militaire mais cette formule "aux enfants..." suivi du nom de la ville signifie qu'ils sont nés dans la ville.

Pour rappel, dans l'hymne national français, La Marseillaise, la phrase "Allons enfants de la Patrie" s'adresse à tous ses habitants.

Note to non-francophones. Usually, in France, a municipality created its war memorial after the First World War. A plaque is added for the second war and sometimes another one for Indochina or another war zone. The names engraved on the stone are those of the soldiers born in this town and who died in the fighting during one of the conflicts. In Cruis, the top is engraved

No other plates for another conflict. No other soldier born here has died elsewhere than during the First World War. Note to non-French speakers. The mention "To children who died for their country" does not mean that the inhabitants sent the children to fight in their place or that minors were executed by the occupier. This memorial is a military memorial but this formula "to children..." followed by the name of the city means that they were born in the city.
