"Sir Charles Glynne Earle Welby, 5th Bt. was born on 11 August 1865. He was the son of Sir William Welby-Gregory, 4th Bt. and Victoria Alexandrina Maria Louisa Stuart-Wortley-Mackenzie. He married Lady Maria Louisa Helen Hervey, daughter of Lord Augustus Henry Charles Hervey and Mariana Hodnett, on 24 November 1887. He died on 19 March 1938 at age 72.
He was Justice of the Peace (J.P.) He was Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.) He graduated with a Ch Ch Oxford Master of Arts (M.A.) He gained the title of 5th Baronet Welby. On 7 April 1895 Katherine Amothe, born , died unmarried 11 Feb 1950. On 10 April 1895 Katherine Winifred, died young. He was Companion, Order of the Bath (C.B.) in 1897. On 10 April 1898 Joan Margaret Welby, born , married 22 July 1919 1st Viscount Portal of Hungerford (see PORTAL, Bt) and died 19 June 1996). He was Member of Parliament (M.P.) Newark , Assist U-Sec War Office 1900–02, Chartered Accountant (C.A.) Lincs, Chm Kesteven CC 1921–34 in 1900. He was , with an elder son (Richard William Gregory, born 16 Oct 1888, Lieutenant Grenadier Guards WW I, killed in action 16 Sept 1914) and four daughters (Dorothy Geraldine, born 1890, married 8 June 1920 19th Lord Saltoun (qv) of Abernethy on 19 March 1938."
