The Minuteman monument is located in a small park off US 9 south of Bass River, NJ.
It was erected in 1911 to honour those Minutemen who fought in the Battle of Chestnut Neck on 6 October, 1778. The monument was sponsored by the General Lafayette Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. it was dedicated on 6 October, 1911, the 133rd Anniversary of the battle.
the monument consists of a full-figure of a Minuteman soldier, complete in uniform on a granite base. there is a large bronze marker affixed to the front of the base. It reads:
IN HONOR
OF
THE BRAVE PATRIOTS
OF
THE REVOLUTIONARY WAR
WHO DEFENDED
THEIR LIBERTIES AND
THEIR HOMES IN
A BATTLE FOUGHT NEAR
THIS SITE
OCTOBER 6, 1778
DEDICATED
OCTOBER 6, 1911
It is located in a small memorial park on US 9 not far from the Garden State Parkway.
