The Trans Pennine Trail is a national Cycle, Walking and in parts Horse Riding trail that crosses the UK east to west. It Connects Southport on the west coast with Hornsea on the east coast. It largely follows canals, disused railway tracks, riversides and cross country tracks, most of which are flat or on easy gradients.

As well as the main west to east route there is a north south section to provide connections to the main route within the Pennine Hills.

At this point the map is in a car park next to the New Junction Canal next to Top Lane Bridge and so is a convenient starting point along the trail. Heading south the path uses minor roads in the direction of Doncaster, starting with Top Lane.

The route, heading north towards Selby uses the canal towpath, except that horses are not allowed on the canal towpath and so they have to cross the canal using Top Lane Bridge and use minor roads for a while.
Location Name: Braithwaite car park next to the New Junction Canal.
