At the end of a dirt road suitable for all vehicles is a parking area, with room for a coach. There are a couple of options for walks, and lookouts are on a couple of them, or just go behind the Emergency Shelter for a partly closed in view. On the side of the Shelter is a shiny grey sign, with the Altitude posted, of 1563 metres.
Even though it was summertime when I was there, it was misty, and quite cold and I'm sure that the weather can 'turn' quite quickly, so no wonder that there is an Emergency Shelter here.
New England National Park, of which this is a part, was established in 1931, firstly as a reserve for public recreation; becoming a National Park in November 1933. Three quarters of the National Park is dedicated Wilderness, and that is almost completely what you will see, or walk in here. On page 17, of the 83 page Draft Management Plan, it mentions that at one stage 500mm of rain fell in just 24 hours, at one place in the National Park - so come with a raincoat. (
