" The Blauwbrug (English: Blue bridge) is an historic bridge in Amsterdam, Netherlands over the river Amstel. It connects the Rembrandtplein area with the Waterlooplein area, and lies south to the Stopera.
The bridge owes its name to a wooden "blue bridge" that was there from around 1600 but no longer exists and which was painted the characteristic blue of the Dutch flag. It kept the name after 1883 when it was replaced by the spans of a new bridge which is inspired by the architecture of several of the bridges over the Seine in Paris.
The stone bridge has three openings for ships and is richly decorated. The bases are formed like ships' bows and on top columns with leaf-motifs, masks and finally the Imperial Crown of Austria, as also present in the city's coat of arms. Also the lantern poles have shipping decorations and the lanterns themselves are again in the shape of crowns. The bridge carries a road which is also used by the tramway. "

"Le Blauwbrug (en anglais: Blue bridge) est un pont historique à Amsterdam, aux Pays-Bas, qui enjambe la rivière Amstel. Il relie la zone de Rembrandtplein à la zone de Waterlooplein et se trouve au sud de Stopera.
Le pont doit son nom à un "pont bleu" en bois qui existait déjà vers 1600 mais n’existe plus et qui a été peint du bleu caractéristique du drapeau hollandais. Il a gardé son nom après 1883, date à laquelle il a été remplacé par les travées d'un nouveau pont inspiré par l'architecture de plusieurs ponts sur la Seine à Paris.
Le pont de pierre a trois ouvertures pour les navires et est richement décoré. Les bases sont formées comme des arcs de navires et sur les colonnes supérieures avec des motifs de feuilles, des masques et enfin la couronne impériale d’Autriche, également présente dans les armoiries de la ville. Les mâts des lanternes ont également des décorations d'expédition et les lanternes elles-mêmes sont à nouveau en forme de couronnes. Le pont porte une route qui est également utilisée par le tramway. De brug dankt zijn naam aan een houten "blauwe brug" die er rond 1600 was maar niet meer bestaat en die het karakteristieke blauw van de Nederlandse vlag heeft geschilderd. Het bewaarde de naam na 1883 toen het werd vervangen door de overspanningen van een nieuwe brug die is geïnspireerd op de architectuur van verschillende van de bruggen over de Seine in Parijs.
De stenen brug heeft drie openingen voor schepen en is rijkelijk versierd. De bases zijn gevormd als scheepsbogen en op topkolommen met bladmotieven, maskers en ten slotte de keizerskroon van Oostenrijk, zoals ook aanwezig in het wapen van de stad. Ook de lantaarnpalen hebben scheepvaartversieringen en de lantaarns zelf zijn weer in de vorm van kronen. De brug draagt een weg die ook door de tram wordt gebruikt. "
