Reta Faye Nicewarner Carter was born March 14, 1938 and passed away October 25, 2008. She is buried in Weatherford's Greenwood Cemetery. Her dedicated tree stands in front of the Old Science Building on the SWOSU campus. The marker under this tree has a ladies hat on the "R", and her headstone also has a similar hat engraved on it. We don't know, but we wonder if perhaps she was active in the Red Hat Society, a ladies group whose theme is: "The Red Hat Society is a playgroup for women created to connect like-minded women, make new friends and enrich lives through the power of fun and friendship!
