Fort Liédot, the "indestructible" fort of Napoleon 1st
Find Fort Liédot, hidden among the trees and semi buried, on the northeastern tip of the island of Aix.
Do you know his original name, "Le Fort de la Sommité"? Napoleon decided to build it on the highest point of the island at 13 m altitude, to have an overview on the harbor of Aix and allow the protection of the Arsenal of Rochefort.
The construction began in 1811 and Napoleon waited 24 years before the work of his strong "indestructible and impregnable" was finished.
