The globe has numbers on it, each of which corresponds to a list on a nearby plaque.

For the soldiers who confront the enemy,
there is no difference between a
little war and a big war

After World War II, a dispute over Communism versus Democracygrew to include confrontations around the world. Conflicts of National Interest, or low Intensity Conflicts were nearly always conducted through surrogates in order to avoid a direct confrontation that could have led to nuclear war. Because of that underlying fear of all out global nuclear war, the public rarely heard these conflicts referred to as wars. Since the end of World War II to the turn of the century, there have been more than twenty "little wars" which have been virtually ignored, even though they cost us nearly six hundred American lives.
