Starting in 1949, the postal services of West Berlin issued a series of stamps featuring Berlin's Buildings. From 1945 until 1949, only stamps of the allied forces were used in Berlin's western occupied sectors. This was the first set of stamps issued by German authorities in West-Berlin and the first of only two sets that were issued only in West-Berlin, but not in West-Germany.
The 20 Pfennig stamp was issued in 1953. It shows the front of the Olympic Stadium.
Berlin's Olympic Stadium was designed by architect Werner March for the 1936 Olympic Games.
