The Two Cultures Monument was constructed in 2006 to commemorate the first Catholic mass celebrated in Mexico. It consists of a replica of a Mayan pyramid and three life-size bronze sculptures: a Spanish priest and a Mayan priest standing on the top of the steps, and a Mayan woman and a child stands at the base of the pyramid.
The Mayan priest bare-chested and barefoot. He is wearing a ceremonial headdress, a medallion around his neck, a robe around his waist cinched by a rope, and a circular shield which hangs from his left side. He is holding a bowl at waist level with both hands.
