Weatherford was settled with the opening of the Cheyenne-Arapaho lands for settlement in 1892, and was incorporated in August 1898. It is located along the route of U.S. Route 66. The town has a population of just under 12,000 and is a growing, forward-moving city. Originally a farm and ranching community, it grew with small manufacturing companies, and was home of a Kodak manufacturing center. It is also home to South Western Oklahoma State University. The U.S. Census Bureau named Weatherford one of the top 10 fastest growing micropolitan cities in America.
The City administrative offices are located in City Hall, at 522 W. Rainey, as is the Police Department and Municipal Court. This is a large one and two-story concrete building, built into a hill with two stories on the east.
Weatherford has a Mayor/Council form of government with council members representing four Wards. They meet monthly at 5:00PM on either Tuesday or Thursday of the last week.
