Calgary's Killarney neighbourhood was established in 1906 when a plan of subdivision was approved. According to the Killarney-Glengarry Community Association website (www.killarneyglengarry.com), the majority of building in Killarney-Glengarry took place after WWII when soldiers returned from the war. Property lots were sold to these soldiers for just $25 to help them settle down, rebuild their lives and raise their families.
This mural points west and helps to frame the neighbourhood's community garden, which by my account, is a prosperous little piece of earth. With this type of energy, this is probably a pretty cool neighbourhood to live in.
My perception of the mural is that the girl, through her reading, is exploring all types of different journeys. From going into space, to climbing trees, to visiting cities, and wandering through fields.
