An impressive monument to Pauline Bray Fletcher, the first black registered nurse in Alabama, stands at the southeast corner of Kelly Ingram Park in downtown Birmingham.

Pauline Bray Fletcher was the first black registered nurse in Alabama who founded Camp Fletcher, a camp for black children suffering from tuberculosis. Fletcher still operates in the 21st century as a camp for children of all colors operated by the Camp Fire Association.
The monument reads as follows:
