Pauline Bray Fletcher was the first black registered nurse in Alabama who founded Camp Fletcher, a camp for black children suffering from tuberculosis. Fletcher still operates in the 21st century as a camp for children of all colors operated by the Camp Fire Association.

The monument reads as follows:

"In tribute to
PAULINE BRAY FLETCHER
1878 1970

The first black registered nurse of Alabama

Through self-sacrifice, perseverance founded in 1926 Camp Pauline Bray Fletcher

Renewing the faith and the good health of all black children.

Dedicated 1979, by the Fletcher, Tuggle committee, Inc.
Doctor A. G. Gaston, Chairman"
