This memorial monument to African-American educator and activist Carrie A. Tuggle stands at the southeast corner of Kelly Ingram Park in downtown Birmingham.

The memorial reads as follows:

"In tribute to
CARRIE A. TUGGLE
1858 1924

Scholar, teacher and Christian

A life of unselfish service to the troubled and the homeless black boys and girls

In 1903, she founded the school and orphanage, the Tuggle Institute.

Dedicated 1979, by the Fletcher, Tuggle committee, Inc.
Doctor A. G. Gaston, Chairman"
