Die von Ubbo Enninga geschaffene Skulptur „das Seelenmal“ steht hinter der katholischen Stadtpfarrkirche St. Martin. Sie befasst sich mit dem Tod. In der Altstadt könnte es vermutlich keinen besseren Standort für die Auseinandersetzung mit diesem Thema geben. Denn auf dem ältesten Gottesacker der Stadt bei der Martinskirche bestatteten die Wangener über viele Jahrhunderte ihre Verstorbenen. Nach altem Brauch wurden an den Jahrtagen der Verstorbenen und an Allerseelen Seelen-Brote gestiftet und über den Gräbern an die Armen gereicht.

Daran erinnert das sechs Meter hohe Seelen-Mal inmitten eines Labyrinths, dessen verschlungener Pfad zum Grab führt. Die Figurenschalen stehen für das Kommen und Gehen von Menschen. Während der Totenschädel als Memento Mori die irdische Vergänglichkeit anmahnt. Die Doppelhelix verbindet mit ihren Seelen-Sprossen irdische und geistige Welt und weist auf ewiges Leben und Auferstehung hin.

The created by Ubbo Enninga sculpture "the Seelenmal" is placed after the Catholic parish church of St. Martin. It deals with death. In the old town there probably could not be a better location for dealing with this topic. Because on the oldest graveyard in the city near the Martinskirche the cheeks buried their deceased for many centuries. According to ancient custom, donations of souls were made on the days of the deceased and on the souls of All Souls, and they were handed over the graves to the poor.

This is reminiscent of the six-meter-high Soul Mark in the midst of a labyrinth whose winding path leads to the tomb. The figure bowls stand for the coming and going of people. While the skull as Memento Mori warns the earthly transience. The double helix connects earthly and spiritual world with its soul-sprouts and points to eternal life and resurrection.
