FR La Tour de l'horloge de Saint-Martin-de-Brômes est un donjon situé sur le territoire de la commune de Saint-Martin-de-Brômes dans le département français des Alpes-de-Haute-Provence en région Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur.
Historique
La « tour de l'Horloge » est également appelée « tour des Templiers » mais elle n’a rien à voir avec l'ordre du Temple : il s'agit d'un donjon édifié par les Castellane qui furent les seigneurs de Saint-Martin-de-Brômes de 1227 à 16731.
La tour fut construite au xiiie siècle. Elle a ensuite servi de pigeonnier
Elle abrite une tombe romaine du ive siècle avec cercueil de plomb et squelette, trouvés en 1972.
Elle fait l'objet d'un classement au titre des monuments historiques depuis le 11 janvier 19212.

Architecture
D'une hauteur de 24,5 mètres, la tour, bâtie sur un éperon rocheux à la limite nord du village, est surmontée de machicoulis supportant un parapet percé de deux fines meurtrières sur chaque face.
Elle est édifiée en pierres de taille à bossage (pierres de taille avec partie centrale saillante et joints accentués). Sa maçonnerie présente à intervalles réguliers des trous de boulin (trous destinés à ancrer les échafaudages) et des ancres de façade.
Une des faces de la tour arbore une horloge et est percée de deux baies aveugles.
EN The Clock Tower of Saint-Martin-de-Brômes is a keep located in the territory of the municipality of Saint-Martin-de-Brômes in the French department of Alpes-de-Haute-Provence in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region.
History
The "Clock Tower" is also called "Templar Tower" but it has nothing to do with the order of the Temple: it is a keep built by the Castellanes who were the lords of Saint-Martin-de-Brômes from 1227 to 16731.
The tower was built in the 13th century. It was then used as a dovecote
It houses a 15th century Roman tomb with a lead and skeleton coffin, found in 1972.
It has been classified as a historic monument since 11 January 19212.

Architecture
The 24.5-metre high tower, built on a rocky spur on the northern edge of the village, is surmounted by machicolations supporting a parapet pierced by two thin loopholes on each side.
It is built of ashlar with bossage (ashlar with projecting central part and accentuated joints). Its masonry has regular pug holes (holes designed to anchor scaffolding) and front anchors.
One side of the tower has a clock and two blind bays.
