Medicine Park (population 382) bills itself as "Oklahoma's Cobblestone Resort" where many buildings and homes are constructed from red granite cobblestone unique to the nearby Wichita Mountains. The town was founded in 1905 both as a resort area (serving the nearby Wichita Mountains National Forest created five years earlier) and as a water supply for nearby Lawton. Two dams on Medicine Creek formed the Bath Swimming Hole, and several hotels and restaurants were built along the riverside park. The area was soon known as "Oklahoma's Playground" and the rich, famous, and even notorious were often seen here, relaxing in the resort and enjoying performances by famous musical groups on their way to Oklahoma City or Dallas. The town was recently ranked by Expedia as the "fifth prettiest town in the US."

A typical cobblestone building is the Old Plantation restaurant, shown in the photo gallery.

The Town Hall in Medicine Park, Oklahoma, with is located right across the street from the Post Office. The town's volunteer fire department is housed in the same building. While Medicine Park is known for its many cobblestone buildings, this town hall is of conventional construction with no use of cobblestone. However, it's hard to miss with its bright red siding and red roof.
