[DE] "Das Marx-Engels-Forum in der Nähe des Roten Rathauses ist ein echtes DDR-Relikt. Es zeigt Karl Marx und Friedrich Engels als überlebensgroße Figuren.
An der Spandauer Straße liegt eine "Grünanlage", die eigentlich eine rote ist - das Marx-Engels-Forum, ein Relikt aus DDR-Zeiten. Dort sind überlebensgroß die Urväter des wissenschaftlichen Kommunismus, Karl Marx und Friedrich Engels, dargestellt.
Die Wohn- und Geschäftshäuser, die einst auf diesem Platz standen, wurden im Zweiten Weltkrieg zerstört und nach 1945 abgetragen. Die jetzige Denkmalanlage wurde am 4. April 1986 eingeweiht, seitdem kehren Marx und Engels dem Palast der Republik den Rücken. Das Areal entstand nach Plänen Ludwig Engelhardts. Im Zentrum befindet sich sein bronzenes Marx-Engels-Monument. Dahinter steht eine Reliefwand von Werner Stötzer aus bulgarischem Marmor. Sie zeigt Menschengruppen in der frühkapitalistischen Welt. Konträr dazu die Bronzereliefs von Margret Midell: Szenen des Lebens in einer befreiten Gesellschaft. Zwischen Relief und Philosophen-Duo stehen Stahlstelen mit Fotodokumenten der Arbeiterbewegung.
Das Marx-Engels-Denkmal wurde versetzt. Es musste Platz machen für die Baustelle der U5-Verlängerung. Jetzt steht das Denkmal in der Nordwestecke des Forums."

On Spandauer Strasse there is a "green area" which is actually a red one - the Marx-Engels-Forum, a relic from GDR times. It depicts the forefathers of scientific communism, Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels, larger than life.
The residential and commercial buildings that once stood on this square were destroyed in the Second World War and demolished after 1945. The current monument complex was inaugurated on 4 April 1986, since then Marx and Engels have turned their backs on the Palast der Republik. The area was built according to Ludwig Engelhardt's plans. In the centre is his bronze Marx-Engels monument. Behind it is a relief wall by Werner Stötzer made of Bulgarian marble. It shows groups of people in the early capitalist world. Contrary to this are the bronze reliefs by Margret Midell: Scenes of life in a liberated society. Steel steles with photographic documents of the workers' movement stand between the relief and the philosopher duo.
The Marx-Engels monument was moved. It had to make room for the construction site of the U5 extension. Now the monument stands in the northwest corner of the Forum."
