This house was built by a powerful Portuguese cleric and with it he ended up founding a new town, Quepem, which grew around his new manor.
It started in 1787, when he decided to move here, from Old Goa.
Apparently all this was built by criminal offenders who were released for their effort in the construction.
The owners are a Goan couple, Ruben and Celia Vasco da Gama, who bought the property almost as a ruin and worked for years rebuilding and renovating. They welcome any visitors and provide a tour of the property, which includes a beautiful garden.
