The building has been home to the Bayfield Historical Society & Archives since 1977. Before that though, it had a rich history of other uses:
* Built in 1893 and originally housed a furniture and undertaking business
* 1929 it became a general store
* 1946 it was used for the storage and repair of fish nets
* 1964 it became the local library
* 1977 it was converted to an archives room
