Dr. Alexander Fleming, born in Glasgow, Scotland, moved his family to Brandon in 1881 where he opened "Apothecaries Hall", Brandon's first drug store. Dr. Fleming was a pioneer of and truly saw the potential of this community. He organized the first school board, established the Farmer's Union and worked to open the city's first hospital. Fleming and his wife Louisa had ten children. Two of his sons, Arthur and Sandy are also buried in the family plot.
