The monument is modern, of gray granite, with "Liberty Grove Cemetery" on the reverse. It reads:
In 1854
Charles Sinclair Nidever
Feb. 22, 1831 -- Oct. 17, 1887
donated
this land for Liberty Grove
Cemetery and School
He was the first Delta County
Judge in 1870.
A white marble headstone marks Mr. Nidever's final resting place in the front row of the cemetery. Below the compass and square of the Freemasons is a simple inscription:
C.S.
Nidever
Born
Feb. 22, 1831
Died
Oct. 17, 1887
An inscription on the plinth notes, "Erected by his sons, A.B, C.E, & H.W. Nidever." There is also a government-issued marker, used here as a footstone, and it has one huge error in the name, along with a discrepancy for the birth date:
Charles S. Niderer
Texas
1st Lt CO F 23 Texas Cav
Confederate States Army
Feb. 23 1831 Oct 17 1887
The Handbook of Texas Online has some good reading about the organization of Delta County, and this particular article notes the date of Mr. Nidever's election, October 6, 1870.
