Live Oak (Qiuercus virginiana)
Live Oak can be found growing from Virginia to Florida west to
Oklahoma and Texas into Mexico, adapting to a variety of soil types
and growing conditions. An icon of the southeastern United States,
the arching canopy of a Live Oak can grow to as tall as 50 ft.
and as wide as 100 ft. Live Oak is mostly evergreen, losing its leaves
in the early spring as new foliage emerges. In addition to the valuable
habitat it's canopy provides birds, butterflies and moths, the acorns of
Live Oak are an important food source for small mammals.
