The church really has no Internet presence beyond mostly web-spidered listings. Just down the road, at the southern end of the community, a granite monument stands at the Necessity Cemetery gate, providing some history of both the community and the cemetery itself. It references the Baptist Church, and reads:

Necessity was first organized as a community during the 1870's. The Baptist Church was started in 1876 and was first known as Mountain Valley Baptist Church. Mountain Valley, Cotton Plant and the existing name of Necessity are all names by which this community has been known. The name Necessity derived from the "necessity" for a post office in the late 1800's. With the discovery of oil in 1920 the population exploded. At the height of the boom there were over 20,000 residents and two banks. The cemetery dates from the 1870s. The first land was donated by Joe Crowley and later land purchased from the Galaways. It is under jurisdiction of the Necessity-Bradshaw Cemetery Association organized in 1974. Cemetery workings are the first Saturday in May and September. Cemetery is the largest rural cemetery in Stephens County. The people of Necessity are proud of this community and dedicate this sign to the memory of all those who rest here.
