Histoire

History
Wavignies, a commune of about 1200 inhabitants, is located on the picard plateau.
In 689, the commune, which was then called Wambuniacae, is cited in 689 in a chartes, called "Vandemir de Chambly", in which a part of its territory is given to an Abbey which one thinks to be that of Saint-Denis.
She then carried successively the names of Wavenies (1156), Wavegnyes (1523), Ouavignies (1667) then the name we know today.
The municipality is a vast triangular plateau covering an area of ??981ha at an altitude of 148m (at the level of the church) without watercourse or forest on its territory. Wide and fertile agricultural plains surround the village. Wavignies is a fairly large agglomeration because of its many individual houses surrounded by gardens. Walking through the village, one discovers modern buildings that rub shoulders with respectable traditional houses with beams and cob, including authentic Picardy farmhouses recognizable by their barns and high porches.

The town hall
It is located opposite the church in a brick building on two levels. The building is divided into several parts: the town hall, a part of the school, the post office and the municipal library.
