The town of Davis was established in November 1898, and was named for Samuel H. Davis, a local store owner. The town lies two miles east of Interstate 35 in south-central Oklahoma. Originally, it was primarily a farming community, situated in prime cotton farming country. Today it is a town of about 2800 residents, and farming is no longer the primary occupation. Davis is located near several recreational venues so tourism is a focus of the town. Just south is the beautiful Turner Falls Park, with the largest waterfall in Oklahoma, and to the east is the Chickasaw National Recreation Area, Oklahoma's only National Park.
City Hall is in a two-story brick building on the northwest corner of Main and 3rd. The city offices faces Main and are address 227 E. Main. The Council Chambers, Municipal court and Police Department are in the same building, facing N. 3rd Street. There is a large clock face on the front of City Hall.
Davis has a Mayor/Council form of government. The City Council consists of the Mayor, Vice Mayor and three Council members and meets on the 2nd Monday of each month at 7:00PM. City offices are open Monday - Friday from 8:00-5:00. Their phone number is 580-369-3333p>
