Depending on where the WOW headstone is located, local monument makers use various versions of the standard tree stump marker. William Norwood's headstone is standing on a two-tiered concrete base. The WOW seal has been placed on one of these bases.

Above the seal there is a small section made to look like the bark has been peeled from the tree, exposing a flat surface on which are raised letters reading: "ERECTED BY THE WOODMEN OF THE WORLD".

The inscription of 27 year old William is engraved on a scroll hanging by a rope, at the top of the stump. It reads:

Wm. N. Norwood Born Mch. 21, 1874 Died Sep. 14, 1901
