Blazon (heraldic description):
The municipal coat of arms of San Bartolomé de Tirajana was approved by Agreement of the Plenary of the Town Hall on 28 June 1985. Four-part coat of arms: First, of silver, lion of sable, armed, linguado and lampasado of gules. Second, blue, silver castle, with two saber dogs steep to the door; sinople embroidery with three gold palms. Third, gold, cross of Santiago de gules. Fourth, of silver, tree of sinople, frutado of gold To timbre, royal crown closed. All added of silver ribbon with the legend "Real de Ansite" in sabre letters. The first quarter reproduce the weapons of Jean de Béthencourt, who after conquering Lanzarote and Fuerteventura landed on the coasts of the municipality to attempt a failed conquest of Gran Canaria. The second quarter reproduces the arms granted by the Catholic Monarchs to Fernando Guanarteme, an aboriginal leader converted to Christianity who collaborated in the definitive submission of Gran Canaria in the lands of Tirajana. The cross of Santiago alludes to the primitive nucleus of Santiago de Tunte, which together with that of Tirajana formed a pedestrian mayor's office before the present municipality was created. The tree comes from the arms of Bishop Frias, the highest religious authority among the conquerors. (Translated from spanish)
