Gene Autry is a town in Carter County, several miles east of Interstate 35. Earlier known as Berwyn, the name was changed in 1941 to honor Gene Autry, who bought a large ranch west of town. The town's current population is about 150 residents.

The firehouse is located at 151 Prairie Street on the west side of town. It is a white metal building with red trim. There is a pedestrian door and four overhead vehicle doors. The fire department has approximately 11 volunteer fire fighters. It was established in 1973. Their phone number is 580-657-3114.

In 2018, Carter County passed a countywide vote to established a five year 1/8 cent sales tax to fund maintenance and upkeep, as well as replacement of fire fighting equipment in Carter County. This fire department is very active, sponsoring several events each year as fundraisers. In December 2018, they held a Benefit Rodeo in Ardmore, a garage sale and also a fish fry as fundraisers for the department.
