A text of 1312 evokes an oratory of the region of Monistrol, dedicated to Saint Madeleine. Is it the current cave which, according to some, was used as a Celtic dwelling, and would be the replica of that of Sainte-Baume?
In the 17th century, a stone facade surmounted by a pediment came to close it and transform it into a chapel; At the end of this century, she knew a great celebrity.
In the rock-cut tombs to the right and left of the chapel, bones of women and children were found, as well as coins from the early 17th century. Do these sarcophagi date from this period or were they reused?
Placed on the pilgrimage route, it was a stopping point during a rough climb.
