This Utility Box on the main highway through Waitahanui is painted with some stunning artwork by local artist Sue Graham from the nearby Wildwood Gallery, see link (visit link)

Sue Graham has beautifully captured the sunset over Lake Taupo at the famous "Waitahanui Picket Fence" where trout fishermen line up to cast their lines into the lake near Waitahanui river mouth to hopefully catch a Rainbow trout. Possibly the most photographed part of the Taupo fishery if not of New Zealand is this "picket fence" at the mouth of the Waitahanui where it enters the lake. The picket fence is where anglers stand shoulder to shoulder casting out into the rip or the current caused by the river flowing into the lake.

Other sides of the utility box are painted with New Zealand native birds and flower scenes featuring a Tui on a red flax flower, and a Bellbird feeding on nectar of the yellow Kowhai blossoms. The rear side has more flax bushes in bloom beside the water.
