[EN] The church of Saint Denis du Payré is listed in the supplementary inventory of historical monuments since June 11, 1991.
Some elements of the choir date from 1060. Wars of religion have caused serious damage to the building. It was looted in January 1569 and partially destroyed by cannon in March 1622 by Protestant troops. The Nave was rebuilt in the 17th century on primitive foundations.
The choir is the oldest part, it has a barrel vault. At the crossing of the transept rises an octagonal dome on horns. It leans on four semicircular arches that fall on columns with capitals of a quality ornamentation.
The nave of the 17th century has four bays restored in 1893. It is illuminated south side of four windows, the largest of which date from the 19th century.
The western gable of the church is adorned with a small gate of the 17th century, surmounted by a statue of Saint Denis (around the building to find the head of St Denis). The bell tower is 17th. A false ceiling supports and hides the vaults that threatened to fall (2010).
Architectural style of the site: Roman.
