The homemade tombstone for Clara A. Howell is at the base of a tree in Pilgrims Rest Cemetery, south of Newalla, Oklahoma. The stone marker is now a century old; the birth and death date are worn but are still legible.

Her spouse, an "old soldier" named John Cullison, was born in 1836 and passed in 1907 at age 70; his tombstone is nearby. From the dates we see that he married a woman twenty years his junior and predeceased her by a decade, leaving no one to provide a proper tombstone for his widow.
