Guillermo Sureda Arbelo was a painter and musician from the Canary city of Arucas. In 1950 he emigrated to America, where he continued to work as an artist. After his death in Miami / USA, his ashes were brought back to Gran Canaria and were laid to rest under the artist's bust in the stone temple that adorns the square.
