Originally constructed as the Bank of Harrison c.1904, this is a one-story rock building which is built of gypsum rock reportedly taken from a local lake. The town of Gotebo was originally known as Harrison, and was changed to Gotebo in 1901 when the town was incorporated. It is named after a respected Kiowa chief.
This bank building has a canted entrance on the southeast corner with a single wood door. There is one window on the east side, and six windows and a storefront on the south side. The arched windows have three rows of arched brick. All windows and the storefront are covered with wood siding.
The town of Gotebo is a ghost town today with about 214 residents. It's population peaked to about 850 in 1929. There is a benchmark on the front entrance step dated 1934 and at that time, the bank building was the town's post office. In later years, it was occupied by the local American Legion. There is a small rock and brick extension at the rear, which was added later.
