Article from the Brunswick Beacon about the article"

"The N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission on Jan. 29 will dedicate the Lake Waccamaw Boating Access Area to the memory of Troy Monroe Sigmon, a veteran wildlife officer who was killed in the line of duty 11 years ago in Brunswick County. Commission members and staff, and Sigmon's family and friends are scheduled to attend the 2 p.m. ceremony Monday at the access area located on Lakeshore Road, west of N.C. 214 at Lake Waccamaw. Sigmon, a 2&-year veteran wildlife officer, died when the helicopter in which he was flying struck power lines and crashed in Brunswick County in 1978. He was on surveillance of dove baiting with a U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service agent, who survived the crash. An inscription on a marble stone erected at the boating access area reads: 'Dedicated wildlife enforcement officer who died in performance of his duties. He was a gifted woodsman whose courage and pleasant manner represent the highest standards of the professional wildlife enforcement officer.' Sigmon was first stationed in Chadbourn as an officer. He was promoted to sergeant and moved to Lake Waccamaw in 1967. At the time of his death, he also was president of the Columbus County Law Enforcement ; Association."
