The bench is out on a projection (called Rocky Point Island) of rocky outcrop, that is somewhat separated from Balmoral esplanade by a strip of sand, and an Arch Bridge.

The wooden bench is about 5 foot wide, and made up of multiple narrow slats of timber, with pronounced curving shape at the top of the backrest, and front of the seat. The two outer supporting metal straps are set into concrete mini-pads, while the central strap provides extra support. The slat that the cast bronze plaque is inset into is about twice the width of the other slats. The plaque has a textured blcck background, and is also held in place with four philips-head, bronze screws. It reads:

ALISTAIR JOHN FARLAND
Tragically taken too soon
"Death is temporary. Regret is forever"
We carry you in our hearts
18th May 1990 - 15th October 2014

While 'Al' died at Lumberton, in North Carolina, USA, his funeral service was held at St Andrew's Cathedral, George Street, Sydney. He was on an adventure of a lifetime, taking two months off to go motorcycling from Alaska through the United States, into South America. [some 45,000 km]

Unfortunately, only 10,000 miles into his journey he ended up running up the back of a horse float on the I-95, that was slowing to pull into a weigh station. [Some info from: Sydney Morning HeraldObituary
