The bench is out on a projection (called Rocky Point Island) of a rocky outcrop, that is somewhat separated from Balmoral esplanade by a strip of sand, and an Arch Bridge. Someone was sitting on the other end of the seat, so I couldn't get a full seat view.
The forest-green painted wooden bench is about 6 foot wide, and made up of two broad slats of timber for the backrest, and five chunky timber boards for the base of the seat. The seat is supported by metal channel pieces, that secured to three 'faced' sandstone rectangular prism blocks. The Dedicated Bench is on a section of cemented sandstone pieces, with some of the earth beneath evidently being eroded away, leaving a broken area - No wonder that the person who was sitting on the bench was sitting over the hazardous area. The plaque has a textured black background, and is also held in place with eight Philips-head, bronze screws. It reads:
In Memory of
DOROTHY KATHLEEN CRAWFORD
Deputy Mayor and Alderman of Mosman Council
3rd June 1980
From a PDF document, from the Mosman Council, it endorses that Dorothy (born 14 February 1919) was elected as an Alderman of the West Ward of Mosman, from December 1965 to September 1971, when she was defeated at that election. Then re-elected as an Alderman for the Balmoral Ward of Mosman from September 1977 to June 1980; and that she was Deputy Mayor from 1979 - 1980, when she died 'in Office', on 3 June 1980.
