Mr. Parmlee is buried next to his brother, John B. Parmlee, and both have their final resting places marked by zinc headstones that are almost identical.

This short obelisk has the floral detail that is common to many zinc headstones, and on the front panel (slightly bent) is a set of clasped hands, with this inscription above:

J.D.
Parmlee,

Born Jan. 11, 1843
Departed this life
Aug. 2, 1872.

There is nothing on the panels on the remaining three sides, and only the back has anything notable; an epitaph reads:

We only know
that thou hast
gone,
and that the same
relentless tide
which bore thee
from us, still glides on,
and we who mourn
thee with it glide.
