"Deixar a cidade grande, ir para uma ilha deserta e esquecer todos os problemas. Pode parecer roteiro de filme, mas um morador de São Sebastião, no Litoral Norte de São Paulo, fez essa escolha. Há 32 anos, o paulistano Caio Rodrigues deixou a capital e se tornou o único morador da Ilha dos Gatos, a cinco quilômetros do continente.
Caio chegou à Ilha para trabalhar como caseiro. A decisão foi motivada pela oportunidade de manter contato com a natureza: "Fui comerciante, comerciário, bancário, trabalhei no transporte de carga do aeroporto de Congonhas. Depois que meu primeiro filho nasceu, eu queria uma vida mais saudável. Então, quando surgiu essa oportunidade eu abracei", disse.
Inicialmente, o paulistano viveu cerca de três anos e meio com a mulher e três filhos na ilha. "Eles ficaram aqui até minha filha mais velha criar idade para poder ir para a escola. Após isso eles foram morar na praia, que fica a dez minutos daqui. E eles estão aí, próximos, todo dia encontro com eles, falo com eles".
Hoje, há três décadas no local, ele adapta seu cotidiano aos recursos disponíveis: "Na despensa não falta nada, está sobrando. Eu como arroz, feijão e macarrão. Como não tem açougue, eu pego peixe na hora, em frente de casa. A água não está chegando até aqui, mas eu busco num lençol freático, a água sai totalmente doce", afirmou.
Caio afirma que já ficou mais de vinte dias sem conversar com ninguém. "Só usava a voz para cantar no violão, justamente para exercitar um pouco. Fiquei sem falar com ninguém, eu tinha um cachorro e eu costumava falar bastante com ele. É uma questão de consciência, existe um diálogo com você mesmo. Quando você consegue ouvir alguma coisa é de você mesmo. Não há interferência nenhuma, nenhuma buzina".
Com 75 mil metros quadrados, a Ilha dos Gatos era propriedade de uma família norte-americana, na década de 1960. Atualmente, a Ilha pertence à União e está inscrita em nome da Sociedade Ecológica Brasileira. O cotidiano do único morador do local surpreende os turistas, mas Caio garante que a experiência de viver na ilha é positiva. "Só tem que ter paciência de esperar as coisas acontecerem. As coisas vêm até mim normalmente. Quando você quer alguma coisa, você consegue, não importa o lugar", disse." (
